Just Say It
Okay I will admit to doing this thing that I never took seriously because, in my life it just wasn’t important. Well, it turns out that it is. It turns out that it makes everything easier and gives me the structure and routine I need for consistent success and it is, quite simply…
a schedule
This one small structure ensures that on Monday, Wednesday and Friday I am climbing, running and walking on the treadmill. Which used to be called the Dreaded Useless Treadmill until we made friends. Now we have a relationship. And it is good.
Further, I get my outside pavement pounding or distance walking in on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. There is no limit to the Saturday time outdoors. It is my playdate with myself and I can do exactly as I like.
All of those days get their twenty minute morning weights slotted in. Before work. After the dog walk. Strength is the gift I give myself that requires such a minimal investment of time and yields such cool results. It’s the twenty minutes I would have spent doing mindless morning tasks that somehow get done anyway.
And Sunday? Sunday is my rest day. I find something else I have been wanting to pursue because there really is a whole lot to be interested in on this planet I call home.
There it is-the schedule. The word I resisted for years. It actually has taught me that there is great freedom in discipline. And all I needed to do was change my attitude towards it. The rest was easy…
“Ability is what you’re capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it.”

I don’t have a rest day. Rather, I have five minutes of rest every waking hour, and I have rest hours during the day. Keeps me fresh, alive, and ready to go. Been doing it like this for 39 years. It works for me.
Very, very cool. I love finding what works and exploding it to my benefit. Glad you did the same!
